Things to do in Luang Prabang

If you plan visit Luang Prabang, and intend to stay at least three days there, here are our advices of what to do and what to see in this city.

Luang Prabang, the ancient capital of Laos Kingdom, is located about 300 km north of current capital – Vientiane. The old town centre is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage, which is famous for numerous Buddhist temples and monasteries. Indochina travel Laos

Firstly, let’s visit some of 32 magnificient temples, of which the most famous include Vat Vixoun, Vat Xieng Thong, and Vat Sene. Then, climb Mount Phousi to enjoy the breathtaking view of this city. You have to climb 300 steps to the top, where you will find the golden Wat Chomsi, a perfect place to watch the sunset over Mekong River. Two other interesting places worth to visit are Kuang Sii Waterfalls and Bear Rescue Center. It will be a romantic way if you have dinner in the candlelight in some cafes and bars with lovely outdoor space, for example, JoMa Bakery Cafe, Lao Lao Garden, Tangor, and Hive Bar.

In the next day, the first option is to visit the Traditional Arts and Ethnology Center, where numerous handicraft products are displayed. Alternatively, you can discover the life of the ethnic people in a visit to the hill-tribe villages to find out how these handmade products are made by local citizens. Travel to Laos

Spend the third day on an elephant ride, and learn how to tame them in the Elephant Village. For shopping, you can go to local markets along the streets in Luang Prabang. The most well-known are Phousy Market and Hmong Night Market.

For tourists who like playing sports, you will have variety of choices such as cycling, kayaking or trekking. Sportive outfits can be purchased at Green Discovery Laos, White Elephant Adventures, and Action Max Laos.

In late night, you can walk along the night street food market and taste delicious local food with a limited budget of less than one US dollar.

If you want to explore the local religious life in Luang Prabang, you should get up early in the morning and pay homage to the monks in their daily proceed along the streets. Please remember to show respect to them by wearing sleeved shirts, do not follow them, and do not take photograph.

In the remaining time, we recommend you visit the Royal Palace Museam where numerous impressive artifacts collections of Buddism and Laos royal dynasties are displayed. And, visit Pak Ou Caves which is well-known for hundreds miniature small and damaged wooden Buddhist statues.
