Luang Prabang; a true jewel in the crown of Laos is one secret that is too juicy not to share. Rich in history, steeped in culture, it is an alluring city, whose captivating beauty, once known, can never be forgotten. Nestled in the center of a mountainous region in northern Laos, Luang Prabang is situated on a peninsula formed by the Nam Khan and mighty Mekong Rivers, both of which offer stunning vantage points for watching a curious blend of rural and urban lifestyle. The high waters shrinking reveal the fertile soil of the riverbank and with nourishing, it yields produce that people sell at the daily markets.
Another sight to behold in Luang Prabang is markets. Even you are free before the sun rises, the aptly named Morning Market is an ideal spot for you to start your culinary adventure. To get a behind-the-scenes peak at the raw ingredients used in Lao cuisine, it is such a fascinating place. Although not being large with the total area spreading over several small backstreets east of Kitsalat Road and north of Sisavangvong Road, the market is still alive and busy from early in the morning until noon. In this market, travelers can see such small goods gathered just for the Morning Market sold by the vendors staying in the hills, lush forests and along the rivers around Luang Prabang alike. The market is the place of fresh ingredients. The firm fresh eggplants with the to the point of being burnished shiny skins, the herbs which seem to be just picked and still enveloped in morning dew are just brought in as this day’s catch. The top of the tall hill Phu Si is also popular to many travelers who want to make an evening pilgrimage in order to admire the spectacular sunset. After making their way down the hill in the twilight, to enjoy the evening in Luang Prabang, there is no better choice way than the Hmong Handicraft Night Market, which is located on Sisavangvong Road and runs from 5:30pm to 10:30pm. Maybe one of the less thriving in Southeast Asia, although being laid-back, the colors are vibrant and rich.
At the Royal Palace end of the market, travelers can meet the crêpe sellers with hot bakes. Here, you can see them whip up the crispiest crêpe and enjoy a crêpe covered with a thin layer of Nutella with fresh bananas on top.

If crêpes and fruit smoothies are not enough for you, the Evening Market, open from 5pm to 9pm, where you can taste a bit of everything when it comes to Lao cuisine, may be your last market stop of the day simply. The more uncommon of the ingredients in the market used in dishes here seem to be impossible to be found, but the fish that has just been caught at the Morning Market could be served on the table in front of you, with more mouth-watering looking; stuffed with odorous lemongrass and served on banana leaves.
