Wat Si Saket Pagoda is situated on Lan Xang Road, on the corner with Setthathirat Road, to the northwest of Haw Phra Kaew, which formerly held the Emerald Buddha which is famous for its cloister wall housing thousands of tiny Buddha images and rows with hundreds of seated Buddhas. Wat Si Saket Pagoda is the only thing that survived the invasion of Siam in 1828 that ravaged the city of Vientiane. For this reason, Wat Si Saket is the oldest temple in Vientiane that retains its original design, marking style Thai, although the temple was restored twice, the last in 1930. There are 6840 statues of Buddha statues, which are rare and precious. They are mostly made from bronze. Wat Si Saket was sponsored by a king. Wat Si Saket Pagoda will be attracted you from the first sight, you will feel so peaceful in here and learned more about Lao’s cultural. Entry to this Wat costs a few thousand kip and for that you get to see four walls lined with Buddha statues – from very small ones in nooks of the walls, to very large ones. Rounds the walls surrounding the main power is thousands of smaller boxes, each box containing two small statues of Buddha cast of the quarter. In the main hall, a large Buddha statue in the middle, there is a little smaller Buddha statues on either site.
Wat Si Saket is a beautiful example of the architecture blends Thai mixture Laotian. The main building of the Si Saket complex, called Ordination Hall, is a structure that is supported by a long columns, culminated by a roof of 5 levels, all of which are decorated with beautiful woodcarvings.If visiting the temple early in the morning, visitors will come across the many locals that go to pray and make merit as well as to offer food to the monks. It is a charming daily ceremony to witness. The temple is quite shady as it is surrounded by tropical fruit trees.
Any local and foreign tourists who visit Vientiane to see pagodas or old historical sites, should also include a short visit to Wat Si Saket.
