Getting Laos from Sai Gon in Vietnam by bus
You can get the bus in Mien Dong bus station in Ho Chi Minh, there has the bus of Viet-Laos bus agent to Vientiane starts at 4:00 on Monday and Thursday. This bus will move to Hoa Lu border gate to national road No.13, and then to national road No.7, continue moving along national road No.13 through Cambodia’s territory to get Laos. You need to pay about 1,500,000vnd for each ticket from Ho Chi Minh to Vientiane. Typically, when there have no direct buses on Monday and Thursday from Sai Gon to Laos, you need to get the bus to Da Nang, Hue or Kontum first, and then transit and continue getting the bus to Laos. From Hue, there are 3 buses everyday to get Savannakhet in Laos. The buses start at 9:30 in the Westerner backpacker town in Nguyen Tri Phuong, Hung Vuong and Pham Ngu Lao Street. From Hue, you need to spend 8 hours on the bus to get Savannakhet in Laos. From Kontum, you can get the bus to Paske, Laos with about 16 hours by bus. From Danang, you can easily get the bus to Vientiane or Savannakhet through Lao Bao border gate with 3 buses per week on Monday, Thursday and Saturday at 8:00.

Some things you need to know before entering into Laos
*For Vietnamese tourists:
Vietnamese tourists are exempted Visa when entering into Vientiane and are permitted to stay in Laos in 30 days.
For things that are valuable from 300$ such as camera, CDs have content… You should hold in your hand in order to be convenient for inspection and customs declaration.
You can the amount of money up to 5000USD without declare with customs authorities.
You are not permitted to bring secret document, state agency’s document or internal circulation document of state agencies.
You need to bring your original passport in order to make the Exit and Entry procedures at the border gates.

You need to bring customs declaration sheet when entering into Vietnam. Don’t forget to bring loose visa because you still need to entry to Vietnam when you come back.
You will be taxed if you bring things with the value from 300USD to Vietnam. You can be taxed up to 120% the value of television if your television is 21-inch-screen.
You need to be present at International terminal or check in counters in International Airport to complete the check in procedures sooner than the take off time of the flight about 2 hours.
