It is good if you keep US dollars and visa card in your pocket. You can use them in tourist shops, shopping mall, restaurants, hotels… Laos currency is Kip. You should exchange good amount of Kip in case you want to buy some souvenirs or food from local markets where local people prefer Kip than your dollars. Laos has ATM machines but they are just easy to found in some big cities like Luang Prabang, Vientiane, Vang Vieng. Do not let too many zeros in Kip confuse you, try to count carefully and compare some exchange shops to find the best rate.

Tip 3: Do not miss traditional festivals in April.

Laos is a land of festivals and celebrations, where every months of a year has own unique festivals. Travelling to Laos in April, the biggest festival  all around country you do not want to miss is Laos New Year( Pimai Lao), celebrated from April 14 to April 16. The most highlights of this important date takes place on the second day( 14th April). Luang Prabang and Vientiane celebrations are huge in size and activities. Make sure you have already planned for book flights, accomotion to get better price. Government offices are closed on these days. You should prepare to get wet whenever you go as water is thrown on everyone during Pimai Lao.
